This policy establishes the nature of our relationship regarding your privacy and my access to your private information. It is a critical, necessary, and likely the most boring part of the website, unless you relish legalese mumbo-jumbo.
I collect and store your email address for the express purpose of reaching out to you through communications directly from me or my representatives, and no one else. Your data is kept on secure servers behind a firewall.
I do not and will not transfer your address to any third party for any reason come hell or high water, unless legally compelled to. My writerly imagination cannot conjure a situation where I would be thusly compelled, but I read another policy where that was stated, so in the interests of covering all bases, I feel ‘compelled’ to include that qualification.
What I am trying to say is that I value your email address as your way of inviting me into an author-reader relationship, and I will do nothing to dishonor your trust in me.
If you wish to end communication with me, there is (and the law requires) an ‘Unsubscribe’ option at the bottom of all my communications. You click on the link, and our relationship is over. I may ask for your reasons, but you are not required to give them. In the same way, you invited me into a relationship, you can also show me to the door. I will not ring your doorbell, and over boombox music, display placards of my undying love for you. We are done because you said so.
While on this site, the software measures and collects session information, including page response times, length of visits on certain pages, page interaction information, and methods used to browse away from the page. It does not detect your name, location, age, shoe size, contents of bedside drawers or any other details. It might note that the site visitor stayed one minute and twelve seconds on this page and left after the website a split second later. I use this information to make my website more functional and interesting.
I cannot access your personal financial data on The M. K. Stelmack Store (run through Shopify). Your personal data remains with a verified third party (Shopify or the like). A founding pillar in commerce is trust between buyer and seller, and I have no intention of violating it. I’d rather pump diesel into my gas engine, which I live in constant, ungrounded fear of.
If your email changes, please let me know through the ‘Contact’ form or whatever link supplied at the bottom of my communications. You can also contact me, just to say ‘hello’ and give me the news of the world as I create worlds of my own.
I reserve the right to modify this privacy policy, so please review it from time to time. Changes and clarifications will take effect immediately upon being posted on the website. If I make material changes to this policy, I will notify you in a newsletter that it has been updated.
